The Horse Hero Lungeing Trio can be bought at a discounted price to the three individual components. It consists of the Horse Hero Cavesson, the Cavesson Bit Strap and Horse Hero Lungeing Rope. These three products have been designed, with the help of Laura Bechtolsheimer, to be used together as the ideal lungeing solution. They are hand made by Albion especially for Horse Hero using the highest quality materials, so not only should they improve your horse's way of going but he will look smart too!
"I just wanted to tell you how happy we are with our recent purchase of the lungeing trio. It's a great piece of equipment that fits and works wonderfully, and it is so beautifully made! The leather quality and construction is absolutely the best, as was the service and very fast shipping to California. Thank you, we won't hesitate to make future purchases from the Horse Hero Shop." Marcia and Richard Larson
The Horse Hero Cavesson
The cavesson is a beautiful piece of hand made, hand stitched leatherwork using the best quality leather, padded with calf skin and latex and offering plenty of adjustment to ensure maximum comfort for the horse during lungeing. This style of cavesson is the preferred choice of Dr Wilfried Bechtolsheimer and used by Laura in the video on the main Horse Hero site called “Lungeing a young horse”. Dr Bechtolsheimer and Laura have made some refinements to the Horse Hero version, so that it's ultra light and easy to use.
Laura Bechtolsheimer says, “I wanted to ensure the cavesson was well padded so it can be made tight enough to prevent any pulling and shearing forces to the horse’s nose when using the rings on either side.”
Dr Bechtolsheimer says, “Care should be taken when introducing the young horse to the first steps of his education to avoid unnecessary stress. By not putting something strange into his mouth on the lunge, the horse will be more co-operative and less resistant, as it is likely some pulling will be involved when teaching him to move around a circle. However, by using a well fitting cavesson and adopting a patient approach, he will learn the lungeing lesson more quickly. The cavesson is also useful for work in hand and long reining later on in the horse’s education.”
The Horse Hero Cavesson is available in Full Size and Extra Full, and in Black or Dark Brown. All rings and buckles are brass coloured rather than the silver colour shown in the photos and video.

The Horse Hero Cavesson Bit Strap
This is the perfect solution to the problem of lungeing with a cavesson and a bit as well! Normally you put a bridle and a cavesson on together but even then it's difficult to get it all sitting comfortably and allow the bit to move freely in your horse's mouth. This ingenious Cavesson Bit Strap from Horse Hero has an extended headpiece which threads through the cavesson brow band loops and attaches to a single cheek piece. It's a simple piece of kit that will cut down the time it takes you to get your horse ready for lungeing, and your horse will love the extra comfort! Used with the Horse Hero Cavesson and Lungeing Rope, all of which are designed by top dressage rider Laura Bechtolsheimer, it makes the perfect lungeing Trio. The Horse Hero Lungeing Rope
The quality of workmanship in this lungeing rope is second to none. It has been hand made using solid brass clip hooks and the best climbing rope. The thread is hand wound then varnished and lacquered for extra strength to secure the clips to the rope. The rope is similar to that used in Laura Bechtolsheimer's lungeing video. Her father and trainer Dr Bechtolsheimer has made some refinements to the design and all materials are to his exacting specifications.
Dr Wifried Bechtolsheimer says: "This is a very useful tool for young horses as well as for fully trained older horses. For young horses, especially in combination with a cavesson, it encourages the still excitable and unbalanced horse to drop his head to a comfortable level. This has various beneficial effects. Taking the head down will help to calm the horse very quickly. (You will never see an excited or panicky horse trot or canter very far with the head down.) The horse can use its neck to find its balance and therefore will find it easier to produce a natural and regular rhythm. In other words, you will find out that the horse tends to run less but will start going with a swinging back much sooner. Whereas, if you use side reins, the horse is restricted and will feel so continually."
He continues, "the lungeing rope is easy to handle but there are a few important things to remember:
- Check you have equal length of rope on both sides before each lungeing session.
- The length of the rope should allow the horse to stretch out without restriction, but should not be too long so that it can slide too far back on his back or that he could tread on it.
- Never have the rope so tight that the horse is forced to take the head down. This could result in severe injury. If the horse feels too restricted it might try to throw the head up and fall over backwards or the rope might rub under the upper arm of the front legs.”
Available in Full size (for horses up to 16.2hh) and Extra Full. Both products are made by Albion for Horse Hero. (Please note, the rope is a specialised climbing product and may come in slightly different colours, depending on what's available.)
